I went to Blue Bottle Coffee with big plans to try their outrageous "siphon" coffee that takes 20 minutes to make and costs a bundle to create the perfect cup of coffee. Unfortunately, they only offer it for a few hours each day and it was too late in the day when I went in mid-afternoon.
I wanted to see what a high end place does with mocha, and this one was interesting. The coffee flavor wasn't too harsh, they didn't burn the espresso that went into it. But, they used a very bitter dark chocolate instead of a more mellow milk chocolate based hot chocolate flavor. So the cup overall was a bit bitter and intense, but not due to the coffee but the dark chocolate notes. I am not a fan of high % cacao dark chocolate, so I didn't enjoy this too much.
